I lost my house keys- Should I change my locks?
Losing your keys is a stressful and annoying disruption to your life that unfortunately happens to many every day. Should you be worried though or is it ok to just get a copy and forget about it?
When and where do you think they were lost?
Of course, if you knew the answer this, they very probably wouldn’t be lost. However, having some idea of where your keys were misplaced can help you decide on what you should do next. If for example you were away on a trip in another part of the country (or in fact in another country) the likelihood of someone finding that key and managing to match it to your property hundreds or possibly thousands of miles away is extremely unlikely. In this case, changing the lock could represent an unnecessarily high investment given the potential risk. If on the other hand you think it was lost somewhere on the street or in the local neighborhood, or there was some kind of identifier on a key chain, changing your locks might not be a bad idea!
Different locks, different options
Some locks, such as high security locks allow the user to have them re-keyed. This means changing the locks internal pins so that existing keys no longer turn the barrel and unlock it. This offers a cost-effective and highly safe option to avoid having to change the whole (possibly expensive) lock. Any certified locksmith in Miami is able to offer this service. Quickly Locksmiths offer a 15-minute call out to allow you to get back to being as safe as possible, as quickly as possible!
Changing the lock
Sometimes the above option just isn’t suitable though and the whole lock will need to be changed. This needn’t always be seen as a bad thing though as sometimes locks wear out and are really only effective for a certain period of time. If the lock needs to be changed, see it as an opportunity to improve the overall security of your property and invest in a more up-to-date and secure lock.
